History of Azienda Agricola Sclavi
We are a small family-owned winery with 4 generations of grape vine agriculture experience in the Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy, in northern Italy. My great-grand-father Giuseppe owned vineyards in the late 1800s, and at the end of WWI my grand-father Rizieri Ernesto began making wine and building a network of clients. Towards the end of the 1960s my father Angelo took over the winery and started a process of mechanization purchasing a tractor and other field machinery.
Thanks to this approach, all grapes were harvested and processed independently in our winery. Since 1995, with the acquisition of new vineyards under my guidance, we also started making DOC wines (as per the Italian Law, so are named the wines that adhere to strict disciplinary rules for growing grapes and making wine).
In 2004 a new vineyard addition was a further push to optimize the use of machinery and seek new markets, while striving to maintain the imprint of tradition and respect for Mother Nature that has always set our winery aside since its inception over a century ago.
